Officers with the Lexington County Multi-Agency Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET) seized a methamphetamine laboratory that was being operated at a home on Bushberry Road near Pelion.
Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said NET officers arrested Jessica Nicole Ellison, 31, of West Columbia, and Mindy Angela Proctor, 28, of Pelion on Tuesday. Officers arrested Ellison on a charge of possessing methamphetamine. Officers arrested Proctor on a charge of manufacturing methamphetamine.
At about 1:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies detected a strong chemical odor emanating from Proctor’s home that they recognized from training that they had received as an indication that a methamphetamine laboratory was being operated at the residence, Metts said. Deputies found a device that is used in the process of manufacturing methamphetamine in a garbage can inside Proctor’s home as well as methamphetamine, according to the sheriff.
Deputies requested assistance from NET officers to further investigate the incident, Metts said. NET officers determined that Proctor operated the methamphetamine laboratory that officers found at the home, and officers arrested Ellison and Proctor, the sheriff said.
Ellison and Proctor each were being held on Wednesday, October 2 at the Lexington County Detention Center while awaiting bond hearings.
Metts asked anyone with information about illegal drug activity in Lexington County to call the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Citizens also can provide information anonymously by accessing the Crime Tip link on the Sheriff’s Department web site (www.lexingtonsheriff.com).
NET is comprised of officers from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, Batesburg-Leesville Police Department and Lexington Police Department, Metts said. The sheriff and municipal police chiefs implemented NET in 2001 in order to enhance drug enforcement in Lexington County.
