Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested two Columbia men on charges that they unlawfully entered a garage at a home on Goldstone Drive and attempted to steal two bikes.

Deputies arrested 22-year-old Benjamin Derrick Bethel and 18-year-old Tyrone Lamar Martin on arrest warrants on one count each of first-degree burglary.

The report said at about 6:30 p.m. on Thursday Bethel and Martin entered a garage at the Goldstone Drive home without the homeowner’s consent and unlawfully tried to steal two Schwinn bicycles from the garage worth a combined total of $600.

Deputies say the homeowner saw Bethel and Martin trying to steal the two bicycles and later positively identified Bethel and Martin as the two men who committed the burglary.

Deputies arrested Bethel outside a home on Sterling Bridge Road near Irmo after receiving information that Bethel had fled to Sterling Bridge Road following the burglary at the home on Goldstone Drive, the report stated.

Officers later arrested Martin near the Sterling Bridge Road home.

Bethel and Martin were being held on Friday, November 30 at the Lexington County Detention Center while awaiting bond hearings.
