Aiken Department of Public Safety is asking for the community’s assistance in locating a bank robbery suspect.
According to a news release, officers responded to a bank robbery Friday morning just after 9 a.m. at the South Carolina State Credit Union located on Beaufort Street NE.
Officers met with the teller who stated that the suspect entered the bank shortly before the robbery and inquired about opening an account.
Officers say the suspect was informed of the documents needed to open the account, and he advised the teller that he would return shortly.
Upon returning to the bank, the suspect approached the teller, and demanded money from the drawer.
The suspect then fled the scene on foot.
Officers say a perimeter was established, and the immediate area was searched with assistance from Aiken County Bloodhounds and South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The immediate search for the suspect was unsuccessful.
The suspect is described as a black male, in his 30's, 5'10", 170 lbs., with a dark complexion. He was last seen wearing an orange in color hardhat, sunglasses and a dark shirt with an oversized "Polo" brand logo on the chest and the number "2" on the back.
Investigators are working with bank officials to retrieve surveillance photos and videos.
