Lexington County Sheriff’s Department detectives arrested a Lexington man wanted for trying to break into a pawn shop after crashing his truck into the building.
An arrest warrant alleges that on August 31, 38-year-old William Scott Belue went to Y B Broke Gold & Pawn, 2817 Augusta Road, in order to try to sell an item. According to the report, management at the business declined to buy the item from Belue.
Deputies say later that day, Belue came back to the store and drove his Ford Ranger pickup truck into the front of a pawn shop on Augusta Road near West Columbia on August 31 before unsuccessfully trying to pry open the front door at the business using a screwdriver.
On Friday, September 7, deputies released surveillance video of the burglary suspect whom detectives later identified as Belue, the report stated.
Deputies say around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Belue turned himself in at the Lexington County James R. Metts Law Enforcement Complex on an arrest warrant on a charge of second-degree burglary.
Belue was being held on Wednesday, September 12 at the Lexington County Detention Center on a $25,000 bond.
