PHS inducts Haggard into Hall of Fame

Pelion High principal Clark Cooper presents retired PHS Principal Jean Haggard with a plaque commemorating her induction into the Pelion High Hall of Fame.

 

Haggard served as principal at PHS for 20 years and worked as an educator for more than 47 years.  During her successful career in education, she has received multiple awards including an Honorary Doctor of Pedagogy from Newberry College and an Honorary FFA Chapter Degree.

GES students plant seeds for healthy futures

Gilbert Elementary student Sam Felkel admires his winning cabbage, measuring in at four and a half pounds and 10 inches wide.

 

Sam and his third-grade classmates participated in the Bonnie Plants Cabbage Program. As the grower of the largest cabbage, Sam was named the class winner and is eligible for a $1,000 scholarship.

 

The Bonnie Plants Cabbage Program provides students with a cabbage seedling to take home and plant. The national vegetable gardening initiative fosters an interest in gardening, healthy eating and taking care of the environment.

GHS senior wins top award at S.C. High School Rodeo

Gilbert High senior Cody Crim won the All Around Cowboy award at the S.C. High School Rodeo.

PHS cross country teams win region and place at state

PHS cross country teams win region and place at state

Pelion High Girls and Boys Cross Country teams took home big wins at the Region 3 2A Meet, defeating Eau Claire, Keenan, Columbia, North Central and Fairfield Central.

Their region wins qualified the teams for the state competition where the girls finished fourth and the boys placed seventh.

PHS cross country runner Nevada Minard earned her fifth consecutive first-place region win, captured a spot on the All-Region team and earned a spot on the All-State team for the sixth year in a row.
