LES students participate in Kids Marathon

 LES students participate in Kids Marathon

 

A group of Lexington Elementary students participated in the Kid’s Marathon in downtown Columbia on March 9, 2013.

Starting in February, students began preparing for the race by running a total of 25 miles in order to qualify for the marathon. With the help and encouragement of Physical Education Teacher Theresa Johnson, students ran during recess, logging their miles for the marathon. On March 9, students completed the last mile of the marathon alongside 200 other students.

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies will participate on Saturday, March 23 and Saturday, March 30 in the Player Assisted League, which enables persons with physical and mental disabilities to play baseball on a specially designed baseball field at the Pineview Dixie Youth Baseball Complex at 1250 Methodist Park Road near West Columbia.

University of South Carolina hockey players Mike Foster, Eric Patterson, Chris Clark, Andrew Swint and Ian Danahoo read to Saxe Gotha Elementary students in Erin Gagnon’s class. Ms. Gagnon’s first-grade class earned the visit from the USC athletes for having the highest participation in The Leader in Me at-home challenge.

 

The classes competed for the prize by completing activities at home that reinforce the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Children.

White Knoll High football players Alex Brown, Malcolm Ford, Delvin Riley and Reggie Gilliam sign to play football during National Signing Day. Parents Steve Brown, Angela Brown, Caratonya Ford, Sheila Riley, Ken Riley and Lashunda Evans join them for the signings.

Brown signed to play for the U.S. Naval Academy, Ford signed to play for Newberry College, Riley signed to Stetson University in Florida and Gilliam signed to Southern Methodist College.

 LHS Girls Cross Country team wins first state title

 

Lexington County School District One Superintendent Karen Woodward congratulates Lexington High Girls Cross Country team members Bari Robinson, Haylee Love, Meri Heneage, Sarah Jennings, Sarah Hendrix, Head Coach Catherine Lempesis and Assistant Coach Stephanie Long on receiving Lexington High’s first state title in their sport.

 The team competed at the state meet, where they beat 19 other teams with a score of 100 and four runners placing in the top 20.

Props, signs and the kinds of odd items not normally found in a typical weekend yard sale will be offered to the public Saturday, Feb. 23 as the South Carolina State Museum presents its periodic “garage sale.”
