Lexington One’s Jackson to lead FOCUS program

At the Tuesday, May 21, 2013, board meeting of the Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees the board approved the administration’s recommendation to promote John Robert Jackson to the position of director of the district’s alternative program, FOCUS, for the 2013–2014 school year.

GHS Team Works finishes first at state conference

 

Gilbert High Team Works team members Ben Bussey, Matt Hall, Dalton Holzheimer and Ben Kyzer finish first in the Team Works competition at the SkillsUSA South Carolina Conference.

 

The four-man team constructed a mini-house complete with framing, wiring, plumbing and masonry. The team members worked on the house for 10 hours over a two-day period.

Pelion High Aureate Team members (front) Jacob Couture, Monika Williams, Jerilyn Powell, Hunter Jones, Delaney Holcomb, (back) Mallory Bowers, Heather Calvert, Brittany Waltman, Kimberly Fralix, Kelsey Bennett, Katelyn Aldrich and Kellie Trouten win the Carolina Winter Ensemble Association 2A Southeastern Championship.

 

This marks the team’s third South Carolina Band Director’s Association State Championship win and second CWEA Championship.

Two Lexington-Richland District Five Schools Again Among Top In The Nation

 

Dutch Fork High School and Chapin High School have been ranked among the top high schools in not only South Carolina, but the nation by Newsweek Magazine.

Newsweek ranks Chapin High School fourth and Dutch Fork High School fifth in South Carolina and 751st and 979th respectively in the nation.

Newsweek ranked the schools based on graduation rates, percentage of graduates accepted to college, advanced tests taken per student and test performance.

Lexington One office and schools receive awards from SC/NSPRA

Lexington County School District One received several awards from the South Carolina chapter of the National School Public Relations Association (SC/NSPRA).

The Communications Office won a video award for “Students get on board for a good book” about a Gilbert Attendance Area bus driver and a publication award for the Teacher of the Year Celebration Program.

Nearly 200 Lexington One students to participate in TRI-DAC

During the month of July, 194 Lexington One students will participate in the 2013 Tri-District Arts Consortium (TRI-DAC) Summer Program.

 

TRI-DAC is an intense and exciting three-week program for artistically gifted and talented middle school students who are rising sixth- through ninth-graders and attend public schools in Lexington One, Richland County School District Two or School District Five of Lexington and Richland Counties.
