Local NFL Pass, Punt and Kick Competition

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies in partnership with the Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission and Batesburg-Leesville Police Department hosted a Punt, Pass and Kick competition, which was sponsored by the National Football League.

A total of 13 children ages 6 to 13 competed in the event, which was held on the football field at the Batesburg-Leesville Leisure Center in Batesburg. Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said the Punt, Pass and Kick competition was coordinated by Batesburg-Leesville Resident Deputy Jacob Hallman.

SC Track and Field Coach Curtis Frye’s Foundation Hosts 5k Race

The Frye Foundation, created by South Carolina Track and Field Coach Curtis Frye to raise money and scholarships for research on diabetes and mental illness, will host its 2nd Annual 5K Run/Walk Challenge Series on October 6 and November 10, 2012 and March 30, 2013 at Memorial Stadium in Columbia, SC.

This year’s 5K Run/Walk Series is presented by Gatorade.

The Renaissance Foundation will be hosting its second annual “Passing the Torch” Awards Gala.  The Gala will take place on November 10, 2012 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center in Columbia, South Carolina. This highly anticipated event will begin with a reception at 6 p.m. and the awards gala will follow at 7 p.m.

DMV offers veteran designation on driver licenses

The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announced today the availability of a “VETERAN” designation on driver licenses, identification cards and beginner permits for individuals who served honorably in the United States Armed Forces.

“The Governor and the Legislature joined forces to acknowledge the service of our veterans,” said Executive Director Kevin Shwedo. “Our veterans have done their part serving our country and it’s only right that we should honor them. I’m proud that we can offer this service and I hope they will take advantage of it.”

Pleasant Hill Elementary Receives Grant

Pleasant Hill Elementary School’s Spanish Immersion Advisory Team received a $500 Kohl’s Cares Grant.

The school used the grant money to paint ceiling tiles that represent the countries in which the school’s Spanish teachers either lived or studied.
