Civil Rights Activist to appear on Forever Stamp

On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks was arrested in Montgomery, AL, for refusing to give up her seat on a public bus to a white man. Her simple act of defiance became a symbol of courage and inspired thousands of Americans to join the Civil Rights Movement. Her work with Martin Luther King, Jr., and the NAACP has been honored with numerous accolades including the prestigious Congressional Gold Medal and Spingam Medal.

Pelion High School Lady Panthers Finish Second In The 2012 Hawk Invitational

The Pelion High School Lady Panthers finished second in the 2012 Hawk Invitational at Blackville-Hilda High School in December 2012. The team advanced to the championship game after beating Blackville-Hilda High and Williston-Elko High. They played a close game against Ridge Spring Monetta High in the final game of the tournament.

 Additionally, Jessica Williamson and Delerisha Phillips were named to the 2012 Hawk Invitational All-Tournament Team.

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Justin Ashley will receive the South Carolina Sheriffs’ Association Medal of Valor at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 24 during an awards banquet that will be conducted at the Embassy Suites located at 200 Stoneridge Drive in Columbia, as part of the Sheriffs’ Association Winter Conference.
