Lexington One hires FitzGerald

At the Tuesday, May 21, 2013, board meeting of the Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees the board approved the administration’s recommendation to hire Erin Darby FitzGerald as coordinator for academically and artistically gifted and talented in Instructional Services for the 2013–2014 school year.

 

FitzGerald replaces Jeannine Purdy, who retires effective June 30, 2013.

GES teacher wins Conservation Teacher of the Year award

The Lexington Soil and Water Conservation District selected Gilbert Elementary Teacher Judy Whitesell as the 2013 Lexington County Primary School Division Conservation Teacher of the Year.

 

Whitesell was nominated for making great strides in conservation education at GES. After receiving a grant from PalmettoPride, she created a Carolina Fence Garden at the school. Whitesell and her students used native species of plants and South Carolina stepping stones to create an environmentally friendly garden.

LTC DECA students compete at state and international conferences

LTC DECA students compete at state and international conferences

Thirty members of the Lexington Technology Center DECA (international association for marketing students) Chapter competed in the South Carolina Career and Development Conference.

 

Students competed in curriculum-based tests and role play scenarios judged by business leaders.

 

LTC students who won first place in state competitions included Brian Carlson, Sean Force, Frank Huang, Freddie Huang, Varum Rameswara, Hunter Sweat and Drake Taylor.

GHS students ‘LEED’ the way

During the Gilbert High Awards Day Assembly, representatives from Control Management and the South Carolina Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council recognized Gilbert High students participating in the LEED Green Associate High School Sustainability Program. The class of 10 students received the recognition for being the first high school class in the nation to complete coursework that is part of the High School Sustainability Curriculum.

Lake Murray Elementary receives FranklinCovey Lighthouse School status

Lake Murray Elementary receives FranklinCovey Lighthouse School status

On Tuesday, May 21, 2013, Principal Devona Price informed staff, students and parents that Lake Murray Elementary School became the second school in Lexington County School District One to receive Lighthouse School status from the FranklinCovey The Leader in Me™ program. Staff, students and parents gathered in the cafeteria Tuesday evening for the school’s annual Family Leadership Night where they learned the news.

Sheriff promotes deputy

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts promoted one Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputy to serve on the Lake Murray Marine Patrol.

Metts promoted Brian Borough, 42, of Lexington, to the rank of master deputy and assigned Borough to serve on the Marine Patrol. Borough previously served as a deputy in the Traffic Division for 12 years. On August 2, 1999, Metts appointed Borough to serve as a deputy.
