"Give OUT Day" Aims To Raise Money for LGBTQ Community

 

On May 9th four non-profit organizations in South Carolina that work with lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender populations joined together to participate in the 1st national Give OUT Day for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender  Queer community (LGBTQ).

Camp Cocoon Grief Camp for Children to be held May 11

 

On May 11, from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Camp Coon will offer a safe and fun-filled one day camp for children ages 7-17 who have experienced the heartache of a loved one’s death.

The camp will provide a setting where children and adolescents can find healing through play and activity.

The event will be held at 105 Camp Barstow Dr. in Batesburg.

At the Tuesday, May 7, 2013, special board meeting of the Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees, a budget workshop, the board approved the administration’s recommendation to hire W. Bryan Hearn as director of the Lexington Technology Center for the 2013–2014 school year.

Lexington County Solid Waste Management To Host E-Waste Event

 

 

Lexington County Solid Waste Management will be hosting a one day electronics waste recycling event on May 25, 2013, from 10 am until 2 pm.  The recycling event will be held at the Ball Park Road Collection & Recycling Center, 301 Ball Park Road, in Lexington. 

 

The electronics waste recycling event is open to Lexington County Residents only.  Proof of residency will be required.  The electronics waste must have been generated from residence within Lexington County.

Lexington High Teacher of the Year Beth Klaes and LHS student Sarah Boyt participate in the school’s Chalk Day, in celebration of Youth Art Month.

 

Youth Art Month is an annual observance to emphasize the value of art education for all youth and to encourage support for quality school art programs. The program is sponsored by the Council for Art Education and the National Art Education Association.

Report: Suspect pries open Coca Cola machine, steals money

 

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a crime that is becoming more frequent in the Columbia area. According to the report, deputies are trying to figure out who is responsible for stealing money from a vending machine.

 

According to Sheriff James Metts, officers responded to the Food Lion located on St. Andrews Road in reference to a larceny.

 

The report said an unknown suspect pried open a Coca Cola machine that was in front of the store, and removed at least $100 from it.
