GHS Team Works finishes first at state conference

 

Gilbert High Team Works team members Ben Bussey, Matt Hall, Dalton Holzheimer and Ben Kyzer finish first in the Team Works competition at the SkillsUSA South Carolina Conference.

 

The four-man team constructed a mini-house complete with framing, wiring, plumbing and masonry. The team members worked on the house for 10 hours over a two-day period.

This marks the team’s third South Carolina Band Director’s Association State Championship win and second CWEA Championship.

These days, an iPod with two ear buds typically provides portable music for the young and young-at-heart.

Half a century ago, however, it was one plug in the ear, and the other end of the wire ran to what was then the latest thing in electronics – a transistor radio.

The South Carolina State Museum has received a large collection of these iconic electronics, along with another type of radio that once gathered music and information from around the world – the short wave.

Soon small businesses in South Carolina will see lower prescription drug costs under a new healthcare savings program.

The healthcare savings program will use the South Carolina Drug Card, which is sanctioned under the Prescription Assistance Program (PAP). The card can result in savings of up to 75 percent on brand and generic medications. The South Carolina Drug Card is free and accepted at all major pharmacies, including CVS Pharmacy, Walgreens, BI-LO, Kmart, Fred’s, Ingles, Kerr, Longs, Target and Walmart.

DMV wait times available online

STATEWIDE (WIS)- As summer approaches, so does the potential for a trip to a local Department of Motor Vehicles office for a new drivers license or other needed services.

Did you know you can now go online to see how long the wait might be?

The DMV late last year optimized its website to display average wait times for 67 offices statewide. The move came in conjunction with a queue system upgrade in its offices, which includes greeters and television screens inside waiting rooms that help improve flow.

Teen charged as adult after allegedly stealing cash register

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS)- A Gilbert teenager has been charged as an adult after deputies say he stole a cash register from a sub shop.

Lexington County Sheriff's Department detectives charged the 16-year-old with breaking into and stealing a cash register from a restaurant on Main Street in Gilbert on May 6.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said deputies on Saturday, May 18 arrested the boy on an arrest warrant that detectives had obtained for him as an adult on a charge of second-degree burglary.
