Teen charged as adult after allegedly stealing cash register | News
LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS)- A Gilbert teenager has been charged as an adult after deputies say he stole a cash register from a sub shop.
Lexington County Sheriff's Department detectives charged the 16-year-old with breaking into and stealing a cash register from a restaurant on Main Street in Gilbert on May 6.
Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said deputies on Saturday, May 18 arrested the boy on an arrest warrant that detectives had obtained for him as an adult on a charge of second-degree burglary.
Deputies responded to a call on Saturday concerning a suspicious person on Hayes Street, Metts said. Deputies identified the boy as the suspicious person and arrested him.
An arrest warrant alleges that at about 1:20 a.m. on May 6 the suspect broke into Joey's Sub Shop at 537 Main Street and stole a cash register, Metts said.
Deputies later found the cash register in a black garbage bag near a campsite in woods near Hayes Street and Main Street. The campsite was located less than 100 yards from the restaurant and near the boy's home.
He was being held on Monday at a pre-trial detention facility in
Columbia that is operated by the South Carolina Department of Juvenile
