Pelion High JROTC earns title of League Champions

The first semester of the 2012–2013 school year proved to be a successful one for the Pelion High JROTC Drill and Rifle teams.<?xml:namespace prefix = o />

After sweeping their first division meet in October, the teams competed against many 4A and 3A schools at a competition at Blythewood High School. There the Drill Team placed second overall and the Rifle Team placed first.

Pelion High then went on to host the Greater Midlands Area Drill and Rifle Team Championships. At that competition, the Drill Team won four categories, and Rifle Team members also won first in four categories. Both teams marched away with the League Championship titles that weekend.

On Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, the Drill Team competed in the South Carolina Drill Competition. They placed second overall and earned an invitation to the 4th Brigade Best of the Best Drill Competition to be held in North Carolina.

The Rifle Team traveled to Lexington, N.C., to compete in the 4th Brigade Best of the Best Air Rifle Competition. Competing against the top teams on the East Coast, the PHS Rifle Team placed second and earned an invitation to compete in the Army Nationals competition held in Ohio in February 2013.

The PHS Drill Team Instructor is 1st Sergeant Timothy Barnes and the Rifle Team Instructor is Major Ronald Dorsey.
