Lexington County Peach Festival to feature Peachy Recipe Contest

It’s time for delicious Certified SC Grown peaches which means it’s also time for the annual Lexington County Peach Festival and “Peachy Recipe Contest.” The competition, sponsored by the Lexington County Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee, will be held on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 in the Gilbert Primary School Cafétorium as part of the Lexington County Peach Festival in Gilbert, S.C.

The Hugh Weathers, S.C. Commissioner of Agriculture, invites one and all to attend BLT Day as part of Fresh Fest at the South Carolina State Farmers Market, 3483 Charleston Highway in West Columbia on Saturday, June 2.

A thousand BLT (bacon, lettuce, and tomato) sandwiches will be offered to visitors, first‐come, first‐served for as long as they last beginning at 11 a.m.

Local CAREGiver of the Year Selected for Regional Honor

– Columbia resident Gary Spence, a CAREGiverSM for the local Home Instead Senior Care® office, has been recognized for his work with older adults in the Columbia area. Spence, who has been a Home Instead CAREGiver since 2008, was named CAREGiverSM of the Year for the Mid-Atlantic Region.

 

Spence was selected for outstanding service and commitment to seniors, according to Rene Kilburn, owner of the Home Instead Senior Care office serving Richland and Lexington Counties.
