Man arrested after stolen fishing boats found | Crime
LEXINGTON, SC (WIS) - Detectives with the Lexington County Sheriff's Department arrested a Lexington man after they found $51,800 worth of fishing boats and other items that were reported stolen.
26-year-old Charles Heyward Spires, Jr. was arrested at a motel in West Columbia. He is charged with burglary, grand larceny, receiving stolen goods and was served with a warrant for failure to make child support payments. Sheriff James Metts says detectives found some of the items that had been reported stolen in his home.
He is being held on $32,130 bail at the Lexington County Detention Center.
According to court documents, Spires is accused of breaking into a home on Stephanie Drive on September 5th and stealing a flat screen television and three guitars. Metts says Spires tried to sell the guitars at a pawn shop and music store.
The arrest warrant says Spires stole a Grady White fishing boat and trailer from a home on Highgrove Circle near West Columbia in August. Three other boats and trailers were reported stolen at about the same time. The boats were found in the woods off Wolverton Mountain Lane near Lexington. Detectives found a set of keys to Spires' pickup truck on one of the trailers. Witnesses reported seeing Spires with the stolen boats in the woods.
Sheriff Metts asks anyone who may have information regarding other criminal activity involving Spires to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-Crime-SC.
