2 accused of stealing copper from construction company | Crime
LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) - Two Columbia men are accused of stealing copper wire from a Lexington County construction company.
Deputies arrested 33-year-old Elton Rama Simpson, II and 48-year-old Timothy Ted Storey, both of Columbia, Wednesday morning. They are charged with petit larceny and are awaiting bond hearings at the Lexington County Detention Center.
Lexington County Sheriff James Metts said Simpson and Storey are accused of stealing copper wire from South Eastern Construction of the Midlands on Harvest Court near Pelion. Deputies and a Pelion Police officer responded to the business when a burglar alarm activated at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Metts said the owner of the business saw two men and a red SUV on surveillance video and drove to the site and confronted Storey and Simpson.
Deputies found the red SUV, which was registered to Simpon's wife, parked next to a storage building at the business with scrap copper wiring in the rear cargo area of the vehicle. Metts said deputies found copper wire on the ground near the vehicle.
Simpson and Storey were arrested at the scene.
Metts said the copper was worth less than $2,000.
