Sheriff: K-9 police dog helps track burglary suspect

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested a Gaston man they say broke into a home near Gaston and stole clothing, $20 in cash, two video game players and other electronic devices.

Officers arrested 21-year-old Dallas S. Gates on a charge of second-degree burglary.

The report said  at about 12:07 p.m. on Thursday, deputies responded to a call concerning a burglary that was in the process of being committed at a home on Stagecoach Road.

According to Sheriff James Metts, a citizen heard glass being broken, and went to the Stagecoach Road home and found Gates exiting the home’s rear door, with stolen items in his hands.

Gates fled the home when deputies arrived.

A K-9 Unit deputy and the officer’s K-9 police dog tracked Gates to electrical power lines near the home, Metts said.. Gates was arrested without incident.

Gates was being held on Friday, March 8 at the Lexington County Detention Center while awaiting a bond hearing.
