Report: U-Haul truck filled with furniture stolen off Interstate 26

A man traveling from Ohio to Florida reported that his rental truck was stolen off Interstate 26.

According to a Lexington County Sheriff’s Department incident report, on February 16, deputies responded to a motor vehicle theft call.

Upon arrival, officers met with the 37-year-old victim who stated that he was driving to Florida from Canton, Ohio when his rented U-Haul truck ran out of gas on I-26 just before exit 129, the report stated.

The victim said he then walked to the gas station, but did not have a gas can to get fuel.

When the victim returned, he was unable to locate the rental truck along I-26, the report stated.

Metts said someone stole the victim’s U-Haul truck.

Some of the content inside the truck included furniture, dishes, clothes, artwork and other belongings, as well as the victim's 1968 Craft Barricuda boat that was being towed behind the truck, the report stated.
