Report: Woman wanted after stealing birthday cake from Walmart | Crime
A Rock Hill woman is wanted for shoplifting after deputies say she stole a sheet cake from a Lexington business.
According to a Lexington County Sheriff’s Department incident report, officers responded to the Walmart located on South Lake Drive in reference to a larceny on Dec. 29.
Upon arrival, deputies met with the loss prevention officer who stated that 24-year-old Michante Staley came into the store to pick up a preordered birthday cake for her 5-year-old daughter, deputies say.
The employee told deputies he saw Staley pick up the cake from the baking department and walk through the store for several minutes, according to sheriff’s deputies.
The report said the employee then observed Staley place the cake in a shopping cart and exit the store.
Deputies were able to contact Staley using the information she provided on a cake order form, the report stated.
Deputies say when officers spoke with Staley she advised them that she would pay for the cake. Officers scheduled her for an interview on Jan. 4.
According to sheriff’s deputies, Staley failed to show.
When officers contacted Staley by telephone, she advised deputies that she did not want to interview with officers because she felt she would be arrested regardless, the report stated.
On Jan. 7, officers obtained an arrest warrant on Staley for shoplifting, deputies say.
Due to Staley living out of county she was placed into NCIC as a wanted person.
