Report: Couple robs taxi driver, steals cab | Crime

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an armed robbery that occurred Friday.

Deputies say they responded to Bethany Church Road in reference to an armed robbery.

Upon arrival, officers met with a 41-year-old taxi driver for Checkered Yellow Cab, who advised deputies he was robbed by two of his customers, the report stated.

The report said the victim received a call from one of his regular customers stating that two women needed to be picked up and brought to his house.

Deputies say the driver went to the Travelers Inn to pick up a girl.

Upon arriving to the motel, the driver told deputies he received another call from someone else saying the woman was in a room fixing her hair, the report stated.

A few minutes later, a man and woman walked up and got into the cab, according to sheriff’s deputies.

The cab driver then drove the couple to a home located on Longspur Lane, where a man came outside and handed the driver his ATM card and told the driver to withdraw $180, the report stated.

The victim told officers he was only able to get $160, deputies say.

While en route back to the Longspur Lane residence, the female passenger began complaining that she was getting sick and asked the driver to pull over to the side of the road, the report stated.

Deputies say the driver pulled over on Bethany Church Road, and the woman exited the cab.

The report said while this was happening, the male passenger handed the victim a cell phone.  According to sheriff’s deputies, an unknown voice on the phone advised the driver to give the man in the back seat all his money, if he did not want to die.

The driver told deputies at this time he felt something pointed at his right shoulder, which he believed was a gun, the report stated.

Deputies say the driver got out of the cab and fled to a nearby residence, where he called 9-1-1.

The two passengers then drove off in the 2003 Ford Crown Victoria Cab and headed towards Boiling Springs Road.

The report describes the first suspect as a white male in his early 20’s, with a buzz hair cut, last seen wearing a black jacket. The female is described as being in her 20’s, with short brown hair, last seen wearing pajamas.

Deputies say the suspects stole $160, a cell phone and the cab.

A short time later, the cab was found roadside on Boiling Springs Road.
