LCSD to participate in neighborhood block party

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department resident deputies will participate in a neighborhood block party in the Avalon subdivision between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 4 in the 200 block of Sandstone Court near Irmo.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said Irmo Resident Deputy Dan Rusinyak will coordinate the participation of the Sheriff’s Department in the neighborhood block party. Participants in the block party will receive crime prevention information.

Historic Columbia Foundation and CA Johnson High School will hold Learning Our History, Shaping Our Future: CA Johnson Community History Day from 2 pm to 5 pm on Saturday, April 20 at CA Johnson High School. The free event features, panel discussions, student documentaries and a reception celebrating the history of the high school and its surrounding neighborhood.

After enthusiastic crowds packed Speakeasy for the February and March Science Cafés, EngenuitySC's popular networking event and lecture series continues with the annual "Nuclear Café." During the month of March, Lions from all across South Carolina have walked the main streets of their respective cities, towns and communities as part of the first annual “South Carolina Lions Walk for Sight” to increase public awareness of Lions’ humanitarian services in our state and around the world.  Highlighting their motto, “WE SERVE,” Lions focused public attention on their roles as servants of the less fortunate throughout the world and providers of a better quality of life to many residents of the Palmetto State.
