In honor of Kenny Chesney’s return to Williams-Brice Stadium, Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin today proclaimed Saturday, May 4, 2013 to be Kenny Chesney Day in the City of Columbia and is asking everyone to help show the No Shoes Nation Tour what “Famously Hot” Columbia hospitality is all about with a Welcome to Columbia Tix for Pix Challenge.

 

The Welcome to Columbia Tix for Pix Challenge rules are simple –

LHS band director receives Hall of Fame honors

The S.C. Band Directors Association inducted Lexington High Band Director Jerry Gatch into the association’s Hall of Fame.

 

Gatch received the honor in recognition of his service as a band director and for being a leader in instrumental music education in South Carolina. He is the youngest member of the Hall of Fame.

LCSD to participate in neighborhood block party

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department resident deputies will participate in a neighborhood block party in the Avalon subdivision between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 4 in the 200 block of Sandstone Court near Irmo.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said Irmo Resident Deputy Dan Rusinyak will coordinate the participation of the Sheriff’s Department in the neighborhood block party. Participants in the block party will receive crime prevention information.

Historic Columbia Foundation and CA Johnson High School will hold Learning Our History, Shaping Our Future: CA Johnson Community History Day from 2 pm to 5 pm on Saturday, April 20 at CA Johnson High School. The free event features, panel discussions, student documentaries and a reception celebrating the history of the high school and its surrounding neighborhood.
