SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEES DONATE  MORE THAN $2,000 TO AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY

Twenty-two Lexington County Sheriff’s Department employees participated in a Relay for Life fund raiser benefitting the American Cancer Society on Friday, May 11 and Saturday, May 12. The event took place at  Lexington High School.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said the 22 employees who served as members of the Sheriff’s Department Relay for Life team donated a total of $2,339.

Carolina Springs Elementary Incorporates iPads into Music Curriculum

Carolina Springs Elementary recently incorporated iPads into the music curriculum.

CSES Music Teachers Barbara Burns and David Headrick formed the group after Headrick saw a video of an iPad band on YouTube.

A group of CSES teachers and administrators first tried out different applications on the iPad to see which instruments worked well together. Then, they assembled a group of fifth-graders who could read music and demonstrated the musical aptitude needed to play in the iPad ensemble.

As part of a STEM lab on balance, motion and force, Forts Pond Elementary first-graders applied what they learned during classroom discussions.

The students began by creating a track for a marble to roll down using foam tubes and masking tape.

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department in partnership with School District Five of Lexington and Richland Counties delivered 2,520 bottles of water and more than 1,000 bags of snack foods at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15 to the Columbia Metropolitan Airport USO.

Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees and Superintendent Karen Woodward congratulate Jo Mayer, principal at White Knoll High, for being elected by members of the S.C. Association of School Administrators to serve on the Secondary Division Executive Committee.

Wells Fargo Stagecoach Arrives to Announce Border to Border Hunger Challenge

On Tuesday, May 22 the South Carolina Food Bank Association (SCFBA) will hold a press event at 10:30 am to announce the Border to Border Hunger Challenge sponsored by Wells Fargo. The event at 10:30 am at 2220 Shop Road in Columbia will announce the $150,000 campaign to reduce childhood and family hunger across our entire state during the summer.
